Extracts from MCN quick test of the Jawa Classic 650cc

Beleive it or not this is a new bike from Jawa, the Czech firm that is known for speedway bikes and cheap Eastern-block style commuter strokers.
The engine is a water cooled, four-valve 650 single from Rotax, which has the same bore and stroke used int he Rotax engined BMW F650 Funduro.
The Classic is designed to be a laid back cruiser/commuter and the first impression of the bike is just that.
The riding position is perfect for leisurly mile munching with the broad firm seat, high and wide bars and semi-forward footpegs making it very comfortable.
On the whole, the rotax engine is up to the job too. On the move it is happy cruising at 75mph, with a top speed of around 100mph.
The five-speed gearbox is smooth and precise and the clutch is impresively light.
Compared to previous Jawas, the 650 Classic is like the starship enterprise. The words quantum leap don't do it justice.
